Ambroxol Hydrochloride, Cetirizine Hydrochloride, Phenylephrine, Guaiphenesin Syrup come with the brand name “AMBROGYL” and consists of a combination of four medicines: Ambroxol Hydrochloride, Cetirizine Hydrochloride, Phenylephrine, and Guaiphenesin which are primarily used in the treatment of cough. Cetirizine belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamine or anti-allergic. It blocks the effects of a chemical messenger known as ‘histamine’ which is naturally involved in allergic reactions. It helps to provide relief from symptoms of allergy such as sneezing, running nose, watery eyes, itching, swelling and congestion or stiffness. Ambroxol Hytdrochloride is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out.

Guaiphenesin belongs to the class of medications called expectorants primarily used to treat a cough with mucus. It works by reducing the thickness of mucus in the air passages, this makes it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Phenylephrine belongs to a class of medications called ‘nasal decongestants’ primarily used to relieve blocked nose, stuffy nose and sinus congestion caused by the common cold, hay fever, and other allergies. It works by shrinking the small blood vessels in the nasal passage, reducing stuffy nose, providing relief from inflammation (redness and swelling), and making it easier to breathe.
